Reckoning (S2-E7)Sample

Troublemaker
Jesus spoke honestly to His disciples about the cost of following Him. His words are not soft or safe: when He comes on the scene, trouble often follows.
This tension shows up clearly in The Chosen. Andrew says, "The very fact that He is the Messiah means there's going to be trouble." Quintus asks Jesus, "Do you know what you're getting yourself into?" Both statements point to a truth we often forget: light and darkness clash.
Ever since the Fall, darkness has pushed back against God’s purposes. So it should not surprise us that when the Light of the world steps in, the conflict intensifies.
Trouble isn’t a sign that Jesus failed. It’s a sign that His presence is exposing the darkness as a sham and threatening its stronghold.
The disciples feel it. Andrew is afraid. He sees the tension rising and wonders where it will lead. Jesus, however, doesn’t hesitate. He moves forward with quiet confidence, fully aware of the cost. He doesn’t retreat or try to avoid trouble. He simply obeys His Father, going where He leads.
That is our example.
Following Jesus does not remove difficulty. It sometimes increases it. Faith may strain relationships, challenge comfort, or bring moments of pressure and misunderstanding. But Jesus also gives a promise: “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart. I have overcome the world.”
This means trouble does not have the final word. Jesus does.
Hebrews reminds us that Jesus is the High Priest who knows every human weakness and every kind of suffering. He does not look at your fear from a distance; He has walked through trouble Himself. Because of that, you can come to Him with confidence.
So when fear rises, or trouble presses in, the invitation is not to run or freeze, but to look at Him and pray, “Lord, make me more like You.”
Reflection Questions
- Do you experience trouble? Where, when, and how?
- How do you usually respond when fear or pressure rises?
- Which part of Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 10 stands out to you today?
Prayer
Lord, I want to be more like You. When trouble comes, keep me from fear and the impulse to retreat. Instead, help me to set my eyes on You, the King of light and the Prince of Peace. Amen.
