DAY 3 OF 4

Misunderstanding

"You are not alone in misunderstanding."

The disciples walk with Jesus every day, yet they often grasp only a little of what he is doing. Their uncertainty is familiar to any believer who has ever wondered: What is the right step? How do I handle this relationship? What decision should I make? Should I act now or wait?

Ephesians 3 offers direction in moments like that.

Start With Prayer

Verse 14 begins with a posture of humility, bending the knee. When questions arise and answers feel unclear, submit your concern to the Lord. Prayer is not a last resort, but the first movement toward clarity. God hears, and He answers.

Seek Answers Together

Verse 18 highlights something essential: understanding grows together with all the saints. Faith was never meant to be navigated alone. When questions stay isolated within one person’s mind, the answer often becomes narrow or incomplete. Trusted believers offer perspective, discernment, and wisdom an individual may lack. Community is part of God’s design for guidance.

Choose a Better Mindset

How someone seeks answers also matters. Many times, believers want to approach decisions from a narrow mindset: Is it right or wrong? Yes or no? Left or right? If it’s a clear and simple situation, that’s fine. But what if it’s complex, and there are no easy answers? Do you get stuck?

In those situations, we need to ask different kinds of questions. Instead of asking “is this way right or wrong?” we need to ask: What would Jesus do in this situation? What direction would draw me closer to Him? When believers seek answers that will draw them closer to Jesus, and they do it together with others, they move toward truth, maturity, and unity. As they move toward Him, they also move closer to one another.

This is the heart of Paul’s prayer in Ephesians 3: that believers would grow in strength, love, understanding, and fullness as Christ dwells in their hearts.

Reflection Questions

  • What do you usually do with your questions?
  • What role does prayer play when you face uncertainty?
  • Who are the trusted believers you can share your questions with?

Prayer

Lord, thank You that I can come to You with all my questions. You are the way, the truth and the life, and I need Your guidance. Teach me to seek You first, to listen well, and to walk in community with others. Shape my thinking so that I move toward You in every situation. Amen.
