Reading With the People of God #12 - the Good Life

DAY 5 OF 30

Trusting God in the Unknown

Life is full of uncertainty. We worry about provision, about the future, about whether we’ll have what we need. But Scripture consistently calls us to trust in a God who sees beyond our fears and provides in unexpected ways.

In 1 Kings 17, the prophet Elijah learns this firsthand. God sends him to a ravine where ravens miraculously bring him food. When the brook dries up, God leads him to a widow on the brink of starvation—yet her small offering of flour and oil never runs out. At every turn, Elijah is called to trust that God will provide, even when the way forward is unclear.

Jesus echoes this same call in Matthew 6:31-34. He reminds us not to be consumed by worry over food, drink, or clothing because our heavenly Father knows what we need. Instead, we are to seek His kingdom first, trusting that He will take care of the rest.

God’s provision is not always what we expect, but it is always enough. Whether through ravens, a widow’s jar, or the daily mercies of a Father who cares, we are invited to live with open hands, trusting that He is faithful.

As you read these passages, reflect:

Where is God calling you to trust Him more fully today?

About this Plan

Reading With the People of God #12 - the Good Life

This is the twelfth installment of a Bible reading plan following the lectionary pattern, offering daily readings from the Psalms, Old Testament, and New Testament. Each day includes a devotional primer to help prepare your heart and mind for a deeper, more meaningful encounter with Scripture. While this plan is designed to align with Holy Week in April, it can be used at any time, though it will be most relevant during that season.
