Stand FirmSample

God Gives Us His Word to Stand Firm
What do you think of when you think about the Bible?
The Bible describes itself as 3 things: honey, a lamp & a sword
Honey - Psalm 119:103
When the Bible was written, honey was one of the most delicious things a person could have. It was a precious delicacy that was treasured by anyone who had it, and those who didn’t desired it massively. The Bible is the Word of God and is a delicious treat we get to delight in. We can stand firm in our faith, knowing that the Bible can bring hope, life and peace to some of the darkest places.
A Lamp - Psalm 119:105
The Bible is also described as a lamp. When we are in the dark, we can’t see, we lose our sense of direction and we feel alone. When we read about God’s Word being described as a lamp for our feet, it shows us how much we need his Word to find our way and how to stand firm in our faith.
A Sword
In Hebrews 4:12, the Bible is described as a sword. This isn’t about presenting it as a weapon, rather it is painting a picture of the power it has to go deeper than just surface level, and change lives. It’s not always easy to allow the Bible to have authority over us, but by laying down our opinions and our rights, we can allow the “sword” to shape us into the person Jesus wants to change us to be.
The Bible has the power to transform the way we live. God gives us so many ways to stand firm in our faith, but one of the main ways is the Bible.
Prayer
Dear Lord, let us be shaped by your Word. Let the Bible bring us to you, and may we use it as a guide as to how to be more like you. Allow us to learn how to stand firm in our faith through reading your Word. Amen.
About this Plan

Throughout this Bible plan, we will be figuring out together what it means to be a generation of young people who know what it is to follow Jesus and STAND FIRM in our faith. We explored this at DTI’s summer festival in 2024, and we have broken it down into this eight-day Bible plan.
