The news of the happenings occurring around the world can feel burdensome, exhausting, and discouraging. With so much evil, how do we find the good? The answer is simple: We must remember to look for it. Every one of us must believe that we are capable of causing great change — forgiving someone who has hurt us in the past, reaching out to a friend that we have lost touch with, and spreading love to the places that need it most. Finding herself in a place that needed such love, Queen Esther knew she needed to cause a great change by stopping the evil scheme of Haman, an Agagite man who sought to kill the Jews of the kingdom that she was the Queen over. Esther, who was herself Jewish (unknown to the king at the time), sought out wisdom from those she trusted and stood up for her people, begging the king to use his power to counteract the evil that had crept its way into their kingdom by the acts of Haman. He agrees, stating, “For how can I endure to see the evil that will come to my people? Or how can I endure to see the destruction of my countrymen?” (Esther 8:6, NKJV). Like Esther, find the crevices around you and begin to fill it with the Lord’s light and love. Put in the work to make sure it is felt by all that surround you. Even if it feels like the smallest of choices, it will cause the greatest of differences.
