Reading With the People of God #15 Purpose

DAY 22 OF 31

Hope and Longing in Love and Life

In today’s passage from the Song of Songs, we see the beauty of longing and the joy of love’s pursuit. The tender imagery of blossoming flowers and the awakening of spring remind us that love unfolds in its perfect time and invites us into patient hope. Love is not rushed or forced—it is a gift that grows and strengthens, calling us to wait with trust.

This theme of hope and patient expectation continues in Paul’s words to the Thessalonians. He addresses their concerns about those who have passed away, reminding them that in Christ, death is not the final word. Just as love in the Song calls us to anticipate its fullness, Paul calls the church to live in confident hope for the resurrection and the coming of the Lord.

Both texts invite us to consider the purpose of our hope and the posture of our hearts as we wait, not in fear or despair, but with eager expectation and trust in God’s promises.

Reflection Question:
How does the hope of God’s faithfulness shape the way you live in your current season of waiting or longing?

Prayer of Illumination:
Father, fill me with the hope that comes from knowing You are faithful. Help me to wait with patience and trust, letting Your love and promises guide my heart. Open my eyes to Your Word today and prepare me to live with purpose in every season. Amen.

About this Plan

Reading With the People of God #15 Purpose

This is the fifteenth installment of our Bible reading plan, following a lectionary-style pattern with daily readings from the Psalms, Old Testament, and New Testament. Each day includes a devotional primer to guide your time in God’s Word. This month’s theme is purpose. In Ecclesiastes, we question what truly matters. Song of Songs reveals the purpose of love and relationships. Paul’s letters call us to live with clarity, identity, and mission in Christ. Together, these books invite us to discover God’s purpose—and how it shapes every part of our lives.
