God’s Strengthening Word: Mercy & ForgivenessSample

Introduction
Genesis 46:1–27: Jacob and his family prepare to relocate to Egypt. Today’s reading lists the names of the children and grandchildren who accompanied Jacob, grouped by their descent from Jacob’s four wives.
Today’s Key Verse: Genesis 46:3 GNT
[God said to Jacob:] “I am God, the God of your father,” he said. “Do not be afraid to go to Egypt; I will make your descendants a great nation there.”
Reflect
While Jacob offers sacrifices to God, God speaks to him in a vision (verses 2–4). What does God promise Jacob? These verses recall the promise God made earlier to Jacob when Jacob left Beersheba for Haran (Genesis 28:15). God promises to be with Jacob wherever he goes. In what ways do you sense God’s presence in your life?
Pray
God of promise and hope, guide me each day as I journey in faith. You are always with me, and I trust in your steadfast love and care. In your holy name, I pray. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
Genesis 46:28—47:12: Jacob and his family arrive in Egypt.
