If Jesus Came to My School: A 5-Day Kids Reading Plan

DAY 1 OF 5

Jesus is the light.

Right before Jesus started preaching and teaching, He moved from the home He grew up in to a place called Capernaum. The Bible says that Jesus moved there to be a light in a dark place. This darkness was a darkness in their hearts. They couldn’t see God because their hearts were full of sin. When you leave your home each day to go to school, there might be people in your classes who don’t know God. You have a chance to be a light at your school for God, just like Jesus was a light!

Question & Activity:

How important is light? What would the world be like if there was no light in it? Go into a dark room or turn out all the lights and sit for a moment. Then, turn on a small flashlight or light a candle. Notice how light invades the darkness, allowing us to see? Over the next few days, we will be learning about how you can be a light at your school so people can see Jesus!

Prayer:

Jesus, thank You for being the light of the world. Help me shine a light in the darkness so my friends can see You!

About this Plan

If Jesus Came to My School: A 5-Day Kids Reading Plan

As we send our children to school each day, we know they will have the opportunity to be salt and light in their classrooms for Jesus. Inspired by April Graney’s picture book, If Jesus Came to My School, this devotional walks through how Jesus loved and served people on this earth, encouraging children to treat their classmates with kindness and love while pointing them to Jesus.
