Impulses for the Way: 30 Days on the Camino De Santiago

DAY 3 OF 30

The Five-Kilometer-an-Hour God

How many times have you rushed from one thing to the next, only to think, “I wish I had another hour in my day”?

In the video today, Barrett reminds us that, as humans, we have limits. “But here’s the thing about God. He’s not impatiently waiting somewhere far off ahead, slightly annoyed at our pace and our frailty.”

Sit with that and reflect. Where are you feeling your limitations? Where are you frustrated by your frailty or the frailty of another?

Ask God, "Show me how you see my limitations.”

Read Psalm 121:1-2: “I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth” (ESV).

Consider: What stands out to me in this passage?

Now continue reading Psalm 121:3-8:

“He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore" (ESV).

Reflect on God being “your keeper.” Pause and listen: are there situations where he’s inviting you to keep pace with him? Process that with him and find rest in his presence.

About this Plan

Impulses for the Way: 30 Days on the Camino De Santiago

What if following Jesus was like walking the Camino de Santiago—dusty paths, vineyards, mountain passes, and ancient Roman roads? *Impulses for the Way* is a 30-day, video devotional filmed across 800km of this historic pilgrimage. Barrett Harkins, who lives in Santiago and serves pilgrims daily, shares stories from the trail, Scripture reflections, and prayers that explore restlessness, forgiveness, hope, and radical grace. Whether you’re on the Camino or navigating daily life, these short videos invite you to take the next step with Jesus—listening to the Spirit’s whispers and remembering this truth: you never walk alone.
