Worship More and Worry Less: 30 Days of PraiseSample

I had a cat who’d wake me up every morning. His name was Hank. Because of Hank’s relentless nudges, I’d roll out of bed and head to the kitchen. After I fed him, I’d make the coffee, and then I’d kneel on the carpet in our living room for my morning prayer. It was a great way to wait on God . . . and the coffee. Hank would sit next to me.
What started as a surrender to an early morning feline demand, has become a habit. When the coffee is brewing, I’m on my knees. Most mornings.
Did you know this is a form of worship that blesses God?
In Psalm 103:1, David writes, “Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.” I love how David had to tell his soul what to do. Don’t you? That’s another great lesson. But that’s not the lesson today. Today is about kneeling.
You may be wondering what kneeling has to do with this scripture, but hang on, this is so cool—at least this word nerd thinks so. Underneath our English translation “praise” was translated from a word that means “to kneel.” It also means “to bless.”
Some Bible translations read, “Bless the LORD, O my soul . . . . ”
Do you want to bless the Lord? I encourage you to get on your knees a little bit daily (if your knees will let you). It’s a great way to start or end your day. Either way, know that when we kneel before the throne, we bless the Lord, and it’s a form of worship.
Journal
If you can, try kneeling today with your journal and write a prayer of praise and thanksgiving on your knees.

About this Plan

When worries won’t stop, and you can’t shake fear of what’s to come. When problem after problem bury your joy, and you find yourself asking, “Where is God?” you, my friend, sit in good company. You are not alone. Grab your coffee. Light a candle. A pen and journal are not essential, but they always deepen time with the Lord. This plan contains short journal prompts after the devotion and scripture reading. Worship invites the healing presence of the Lord. Come lay down your worries.
