Father’s Love: 30 Days of Discovering God as FatherSample

Day 6 – A Forgiving Father
God is a forgiving Father. There is no difference between a serial killer or a teen who stole candy, when they pray, God forgives each one. A good father forgives, not because you deserve it, but because of love. God’s forgiveness washes you clean. I love Hebrews 8:12 (NIV) where God says, “For I will forgive their wickedness, and will remember their sins no more.” I want to strongly emphasize this point. Stop rehearsing your sins to God! When you confessed your sins, repented and asked Daddy to forgive you, not only did He immediately forgive you, (1 John 1:9) but He also chose not to remember them anymore.
Something goes wrong in your life, and your first thought (which is absolutely brought on by the enemy) is to think God must be punishing you for a past sin. That is not the kind of Father He is! He says he remembers your past sins no more! Sometimes the struggle is you haven’t yet forgiven yourself.
Perhaps you were raised by a father who knew how to bring up your past mistakes and failures every chance he got. Or you are currently in relationships with people that with each mistake, you have to go out of your way to perform and do things so they “like you again and forgive you for real.” God is not like this and guess what? It is not in his character or nature to be like that ever!
I want you to pause right now, boldly look into your own eyes in a mirror (harder than you think), and say I forgive you for (mention each sin that the enemy repeatedly reminds you off and makes you feel condemned for). Repeat this exercise as many times as needed for as many days as it takes until that weight is lifted and thank God for it.
If there’s a sin that you’ve not repented from and don’t know how to stop committing, ask the Holy Spirit to help you today. You were never created to carry such heavy burdens of guilt and shame.
Read, internalize, and pray each scripture to deepen your faith.
