Why Not You: Believing What God Believes About YouSample

Your Weakness Does Not Disqualify You
2 Corinthians 12:9, 2 Samuel 11-12
The lie: I feel so weak. I’ve made some serious mistakes, ones I don’t think God can forgive. There’s no way He wants to use me to do something incredible.”
The truth: Your mistakes do not disqualify you from God’s amazing call on your life!
All throughout the Bible you will find stories of broken people who God used to do things so incredible that we still read and preach about them thousands of years later. These were all people who made mistakes. They disobeyed God, and they got off track in their faith journeys. And you know what? God forgave them. But more than that, He then used them to do the unthinkable. That is what God does. He takes ordinary people and does extraordinary things. God does not look at your ability, just your availability.
The mistakes and weaknesses you have do not disqualify you from God using you. Paul reminded us of this in 2 Corinthians 12:9: “But [the Lord] said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
Paul, a man God used to do incredible things, experienced weakness himself. The Bible doesn’t specify what this weakness was, but it was bad enough that Paul begged God (on multiple occasions) to take it away. But God essentially told him, “You know what Paul, I don’t need to take it away. Because in your weakness, My power will shine through you.”
Why is this important? Because when we do incredible things for God despite our weaknesses, it reveals His power. On our own, our weaknesses would limit us from achieving what He has called us to do. But your weakness doesn’t disqualify you. God will do special things in and through you, and His power will be perfected wherever you are weak.
Don’t miss the unimaginable things God wants to do in your life because you have made mistakes and have weaknesses. Guess what? So has every person (besides Jesus) who ever lived. God hasn’t disqualified you, so don’t disqualify yourself!
O Lord, your love, grace, your mercy, and your forgiveness are so amazing. Thank you that my past doesn’t disqualify me from the future You are calling me into. Amen.
About this Plan

When we are tempted to believe lies about ourselves—that we lack value, we aren’t skilled or experienced, we’re too weak to make a difference, God has no use for us—it is wise to counter them with the promises of God’s Word: that He loves, cherishes, and has a vital role for each of us in His plans. Let’s look at five ways to replace those lies with truth.
