Why Not You: Believing What God Believes About YouSample

You Are in God’s Providence
Romans 8:29–30, Job 10:12, 2 Corinthians 10:5
The lie: I’m alone, faking it, drifting and doubting, unsure of my purpose.
The truth: God has predestined you, called you, justified you, and glorified you. Paul wrote in Romans 8:29–30, “For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.”
In light of this, let me ask you: How could you be an imposter when your identity is found in the One who created you rather than in the labels you wear and the accomplishments you gain? How could you be a fraud when God created you to be exactly as you are? How could you be an imposter when the weaknesses you display don’t disqualify you but only magnify what God can do in and through your life? How can you be a fraud when God has already predestined you, called you, justified you, and glorified you?
These aren’t just truths I’m saying about you. God’s Word makes it very clear that these things are true of you.
One way to believe this more deeply is to separate feelings from facts. As Paul also wrote, “We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5). Your feelings of inadequacy, failure, or being a fraud are not true. Feelings are not fact; they just reflect our emotions in a given moment. Feelings change, but facts stay the same. Multiple passages of Scripture tell us the facts about who God says we are. If you want to overcome imposter syndrome, it starts with choosing to believe God’s truth over your feelings.
Ultimately, breaking free from the feelings and thoughts of imposter syndrome may come down to this: Will you choose to believe your negative emotions and self-talk, or will you choose to believe what God has said about you and predestined for you before you ever took your first breath?
Dear God, I believe that You have called me to a great purpose; please help my unbelief! Draw me closer to You as I seek Your ways today. Amen.
About this Plan

When we are tempted to believe lies about ourselves—that we lack value, we aren’t skilled or experienced, we’re too weak to make a difference, God has no use for us—it is wise to counter them with the promises of God’s Word: that He loves, cherishes, and has a vital role for each of us in His plans. Let’s look at five ways to replace those lies with truth.
