FEAST: 30 Days of Real Truth for Real Life

DAY 23 OF 30

Day 23: Simeon and Anna—Wisdom and Worship

Snack

  1. Waiting on God requires patience, but it is never wasted.
  2. Wisdom grows in those who walk closely with Him.
  3. Worship keeps our hearts alive in the waiting.

Appetiser

Have you ever waited a long time for God to fulfil something He promised?

Main Course

Simeon was described as righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel. The Holy Spirit had revealed to him that he would not die before seeing the Messiah. When Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to the temple, Simeon took Him in his arms and praised God:“Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you may now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation” (Luke 2:29-30 NIV). His long wait ended in worship.

Anna, a prophetess, had spent decades in the temple, worshipping, fasting, and praying night and day. When she saw the child, she gave thanks and spoke about Him to all who were looking forward to redemption (Luke 2:36–38). Both Simeon and Anna show us that wisdom and worship are cultivated in seasons of patient waiting.

Waiting is not passive—it is active trust. They didn’t fill the silence with distraction but with devotion. Their faithfulness positioned them to recognise Jesus when others missed Him.

Isaiah writes,“Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” (Isaiah 40:31 NIV). Waiting on God does not drain us—it renews us.

The psalmist echoes this posture: "I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord” (Psalm 27:13–14 NIV).

Simeon and Anna remind us that God’s timing is perfect, even when it feels delayed. They lived lives of steady devotion, and in their later years, they saw God’s promise fulfilled before their eyes. Your season of waiting may feel long, but it is not wasted. God is at work, shaping your heart in wisdom and drawing you to worship.

Like Simeon and Anna, may you be found faithful—ready to recognise His promise when it comes.
