My Boss Doesn't Respect Me

DAY 4 OF 5

Day 4. Breaking Free from the Cycle of Resentment

Day after day, the grind wears you down. You give your best, but disrespect piles up until you feel like you’re running on empty. That’s when anger starts to feel normal, like the only way to survive. But God's Word says to strip anger off and put on the new self he gives.

“At one time you yourselves used to live according to such desires, when your life was dominated by them. But now you must get rid of all these things: anger, passion, and hateful feelings. No insults or obscene talk must ever come from your lips. Do not lie to one another, for you have put off the old self with its habits and have put on the new self. This is the new being which God, its Creator, is constantly renewing in his own image, in order to bring you to a full knowledge of himself.” (Colossians 3:7–10 GNT)

The believers in Colossae lived under pressure just like you do. Paul didn’t tell them to stuff their anger—he told them to get rid of it and put on something better. The new self isn’t fake. It’s a life God is renewing day by day.

At work, when disrespect drains you, anger feels justified. But anger doesn’t build anything lasting. God calls you to live out the new self—honest, steady, shaped in his image. That’s a strength. That’s dignity no boss can give or take away.

Your identity isn’t trapped in someone else’s opinion. It’s anchored in Christ, who is making you new. When you remember that, you can keep going, even when respect never comes.

Prayer

Lord, I admit that disrespect wears me down, and anger feels like the easy path. Forgive me for letting my frustration get the better of me. Help me put off the old self and put on the new life you are shaping in me. Renew me in your image. Give me the strength to work with honesty and patience, even when I feel unseen and unappreciated. Amen.
