Fully Loved, Fully Known: Known by God. Loved Without Limits.

DAY 1 OF 5

We live in a time where communication is easier than ever, yet people feel more alone. With a single tap, you can message someone across the globe, but how many of us still feel unseen, unknown, or unheard?

I think back to the years my husband and I spent in a long-distance relationship. He was studying medicine in Australia while I was in medical school in the UK. Long before smartphones, social media, or email, we stayed in touch through handwritten letters and Hallmark cards.

We even recorded soppy love messages on cassette tapes mixed with our favourite songs. Some of you know the heartbreak of listening to tapes over and over, only for the ribbon to tangle and the struggle trying to wind it back with a ballpoint pen!

Once a month, we saved enough to buy an international phone card and arranged a time to stand by the public phone in our hostels, praying no one else got to it first. Finally, the phone would ring, and there was the sound of his voice! But just as we were settling in, we’d hear the dreaded beep-beep-beep: “One minute remaining.” Suddenly, we were cramming everything into sixty seconds, until the line went dead, leaving me in that strange no man’s land of feeling high yet low.

Fast-forward almost forty years. Our daughter lives in the UK while we’re in Malawi. We talk several times a day via WhatsApp, FaceTime or Messenger. Communication is effortless, but the world is more disconnected. Loneliness is a global epidemic. Mother Teresa once said, “The most terrible poverty is loneliness and the feeling of being unwanted.” She was right. We all long to be known.

I remember a moment at church, during fellowship time, the pastor’s wife was serving tea. When it came to the turn of one of the new ladies, before she could speak, the pastor’s wife popped in a slice of lemon, added one teaspoon of sugar, and handed her the cup – exactly how she liked it, without her saying a word. The lady lit up: “It’s so nice to be known!”

Do you have a friend who knows you like that? Without exchanging a word, they know immediately what you’re thinking, what you need? Psalm 139 tells us that we do. God knows when you sit and when you stand. He knows your thoughts before you say them. God even knows the number of hairs on your head! (Matthew 10:30)

Being known by people is wonderful. But being fully known by God? That is life changing.

You are not alone. God sees you, knows you and loves you completely.

Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, I’m so grateful and comforted that You know me fully and love me completely. Help me to know You more deeply too. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Tomorrow, discover how God is always near - even when you feel far away.
