God Is Able to Finish What He Started
“I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy, For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now; Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:” (Philippians 1:3–6)
When he was twenty-five, Allen Swift received an extraordinary gift from his father for agreeing to take over the family business—a brand new 1928 Rolls-Royce Piccadilly P1 Roadster. Swift treasured that gift. For the next seventy-seven years, he carefully maintained and drove the car, eventually logging more than 170,000 miles. In recognition of his exceptional dedication, Rolls-Royce honored him with the Spirit of Ecstasy Award for being the longest-term owner of a single Rolls-Royce vehicle. When Swift died at the age of 102, he donated the car to a museum along with funds to ensure its continued care.
Allen Swift’s commitment to preserving that car for a lifetime is impressive. But it pales in comparison to God’s commitment to the work He begins in us.
When God saves us, He does not abandon us to finish the journey on our own. He does not start a work and then walk away. He remains personally, powerfully, and faithfully involved in every step of our spiritual growth. The same God who gave us life in Christ continues to shape, refine, and strengthen us until His purpose is complete. He supplies the power for our salvation, the grace for our growth, and the faith we need to finish the course.
No matter how long life lasts or how difficult the road becomes, God will still be at work. He was faithful at the beginning, and He will be faithful at the end. “For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death” (Psalm 48:14).
Today’s Takeaway: God is able to finish the work He started in your life, and He will be faithful all the way to the end.
