God Is Able

DAY 5 OF 21

God Is Able to Save Completely

“By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament. And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death: But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.” (Hebrews 7:22–25)

When I was young, we would occasionally go to watch the Oakland A’s play baseball. In those days, the team often ran promotional giveaways—a souvenir hat, a small helmet, or some other keepsake. But there was always a limit. Only the first 1,500 or 2,000 fans through the gate would receive one. If you arrived too late, you missed out. The offer was real, but it was not unlimited.

Salvation in Christ is nothing like that. There is no cap. There is no quota. There is no point at which God runs out of mercy, grace, or forgiveness. Hebrews tells us that Jesus “is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him.” That word uttermost does not mean “somewhat” or “partially.” It means “completely, fully, entirely.” He saves all the way—from the guilt of sin, from the power of sin, and one day even from the presence of sin.

And the reason He can do that is found in this same passage: “He ever liveth to make intercession for them.” Every Old Testament priest eventually died. His ministry ended. But Jesus never dies, never steps down, and never stops interceding. His saving work is not temporary. It is permanent.

God does not turn people away because too many have already come. He does not say His mercy is used up. He promised, “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out” (John 6:37). The only “limit” is time. A sinner must come while the opportunity still stands. As Paul wrote, “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:2).

Today’s Takeaway: We should never give up on seeing someone saved, because God is able to save completely.
