EquipHer Vol. 37: "Information + Application = Transformation"Sample

Day 4 — Practice Leads to Understanding
It is difficult to truly grasp the will of God until we begin to live what we have read.
This is the principle Paul summarizes in Romans 12:2 when he writes that the renewing of our minds leads us to “prove what the will of God is” (NASB) — as a concrete reality to live out day by day.
In other words, it is our obedience — expressed through action — that leads us into a real understanding of the Truth revealed in Scripture.
This perspective turns our human logic upside down. We want to understand before we act, but God calls us to act in order to understand. And this is the very heart of faith.
Faith is not an act of comprehension; faith is an act of trust. God does not call us to move when everything is clear, but to step forward even when we do not yet have all the details. This is why He invites us to “act in order to understand” because obedience is the most tangible expression of faith.
This is the way God has always guided His people. The “heroes of faith” referenced in Hebrews 11 did not have all the information they wanted, but they had a word from God — and by faith, they chose to act on that word.
In Genesis 12:1, Abraham left what was familiar (a farm stable) for what had been promised by the Lord (a place not yet fully revealed). Abraham chose to move without knowing the final destination. “By faith Abraham… obeyed when he was called to go out… not knowing where he was going” (Hebrews 11:8, ESV). The meaning of God’s call became clear along the way, not at the beginning.
Noah, likewise, built an ark because he trusted a word from God. The Lord spoke to him about a flood in a time when humanity did not even know what rain was. Noah chose to trust. “By faith Noah… constructed an ark for the saving of his household” (Hebrews 11:7, ESV). The logic behind God’s command unfolded as Noah carried out the work, not before.
Neither Abraham nor Noah had all the answers. They did not have a complete picture of what they were stepping into. They had no guarantees. What they had was a word from God — a promise – and they chose to obey it.
That choice, over time, brought understanding. It clarified the direction, and it produced transformation within them — shaping them into the “heroes of faith” celebrated in the New Testament.
The same is true for us: God does not ask us to understand everything first…He calls us to move in alignment with His Word.
Prayer: Lord, thank You that You do not require me to understand everything immediately, but You invite me to walk with You one step at a time. I recognize that many times I have waited to understand before I obeyed, but You are teaching me that true understanding is born when I choose to trust You. Help me not to postpone obedience in search of clarity that can only come from living out Your Word. Amen.
