Seeds: Potential and Process
Every one of us has experienced moments filled with potential—starting a new job, walking onto campus for the first time, standing at the altar, holding the keys to a new home.
Potential is exciting. It stirs something inside us. But potential by itself isn’t enough.
A seed carries incredible potential inside it, but that potential only becomes real when it’s planted, nurtured, and given time to grow.
God designed life this way—seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter. There’s a rhythm to life that reminds us: growth takes time.
What you hope for tomorrow begins with the seeds you plant today.
What you want to see in your relationship with God in a year starts with the choices you make today. The marriage you’ll have tomorrow grows from the words, actions, and practices you plant right now.
It’s easy to love potential—it’s full of excitement and hope. But it’s the process that turns potential into fruit.
In Matthew 13, Jesus tells a story about a farmer scattering seed across a field. Some seed falls on rocky ground, some among thorns, and some on good soil. The farmer doesn’t control what happens next—he simply sows and trusts the process.
The seed that falls on good soil produces a crop—a hundred, sixty, or thirty times what was sown. That’s the power of the process. You can’t rush it. You can’t fake it. You can’t microwave spiritual growth.
A healthy life of faith develops the same way a healthy seed grows: through steady care, through seasons of change, through patience and trust.
God’s Word and God’s Son are both described as seeds. When they’re planted, they always bear fruit. It takes time, but you can count on it—they always accomplish what God sends them to do.
So if you want to see your life grow and flourish, start with those two seeds: His Word and His Son. That’s where all real potential begins.
Jesus used parables like this to teach us that real growth doesn’t come from instant results—it comes through process.
You can’t build a healthy marriage in a weekend getaway.
You can’t develop deep trust with your kids with one big gesture.
You can’t grow in your faith through occasional effort.
Growth happens when we stay planted and keep showing up—through the process.
These devotionals aren’t about getting quick answers—it’s about forming a rhythm of life with Him. It’s about learning to plant God’s Word in your heart, water it with obedience, and watch it grow into something lasting.
Think about where you want to be this time next year. What do you want to see God do in your life—your marriage, your friendships, your purpose?
Write it down. Name it. Then start planting today.
Because potential only becomes fruit when you trust God’s process.
