DAY 2 OF 7

Resistance

We like the idea of potential—it’s full of hope. We even like the idea of process—it gives us confidence in future outcomes. But no one really likes resistance.

We don’t choose to be uncomfortable if we can avoid it. We want fast and easy. We want life hacks. But as we grow in our understanding of how seeds work, it becomes clear there are real obstacles to growth—real enemies we face.

Potential often goes unrealized. Processes can break down. And when they do, we feel it.

We all know the frustration of unmet expectations.
A friend promises to come to church but never follows through.
A relationship that once seemed so promising suddenly ends.
A desire to grow closer to God fades into complacency.
A child faces disappointment.
An opportunity turns into loss.

How do we handle this kind of adversity? What does it teach us about our growth? Jesus gives us the answer in Matthew 13:18–23.

He explains that when God speaks, there will always be resistance.
The seed of His Word lands on all kinds of soil, and not all of it takes root.
Some people hear but don’t understand; the enemy steals it away.
Others hear and respond with excitement but give up when life gets hard.
Still others receive the Word, but worry and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it out.

And then there’s the good soil—the one who hears the Word, understands it, and produces fruit thirty, sixty, even a hundred times more than what was sown.

Resistance is part of the process. It’s not proof that something’s wrong—it’s evidence that something’s growing.

Jesus said not to be surprised when opposition comes because of the Word.
When you step out in obedience, there will be pushback.
When you commit to change, there will be challenges.
When you decide to grow, there will be resistance.

So what do we do?

When you meet resistance, don’t quit.
When you don’t understand what God is doing, trust Him anyway.
When you’re discouraged, stay planted.
When you’re choked by worry, remember: God knows what you need.

Growth takes time. Fruit comes with faithfulness. If you keep sowing, you’ll reap in due season.
