Dear Single Mom

DAY 2 OF 3

He Is Close

Becoming a single mother is often, if not always, a heartbreaking experience. God designed life to be created through intimacy, union, and oneness. In God’s design, two people become one flesh, bringing children into the world to raise them together in unity and communion.

Like every other part of God’s design, when it is broken, there is deep pain and heartbreak. Whether you become a single parent through the death of a spouse, divorce, or having a child out of wedlock, there is pain involved.

While I had a lot of support from loved ones during my pregnancy and while raising my daughter, I often felt the yearning and desire to share little moments with her father. From her first words to the times when she did something that reminded me of him, I wished he were there to see and experience those big and small moments with me. No matter who else was around, it never felt sufficient. I wanted a “complete family.”

Over time, I’ve come to accept that these desires are natural and not out of place. I have also learned to accept that people make choices beyond my control. It took me a long time to reach a place of acceptance and peace about what I cannot control or change.

One afternoon, during a counseling session with my pastor, he said something so profound that it completely shifted my mindset about my situation. He simply said, “The reason you are so disappointed is because you have placed your expectations on a man (a person).”

It was true. That moment became a turning point for me. I decided to shift my expectations from people to God. I was heartbroken—and what I truly needed was not the presence of someone who chose not to be there, but the healing touch of the One who never leaves.

And to my delight, He was right there. He is with you when you feel it and when you don't.

He is close to the brokenhearted.Psalm 34:18
His grace is sufficient; His strength is made perfect in weakness.2 Corinthians 12:9

Prayer

Dear God,
Thank You for being close to me in times of heartbreak. I rely on Your grace and come boldly to Your throne of mercy to receive strength for each day. I declare that Your strength is made perfect in my heart, mind, and spirit.
Amen.
