Guarding Your Journey
Every year opens with great expectation. We carry dreams, goals, and prayers into the future, hoping the path ahead will be peaceful and productive. But Scripture reminds us that not everyone walking with us is walking for us. In 2 Timothy 4:14, Paul warns Timothy about Alexander the coppersmith, a man who caused him much harm. Paul didn’t pretend the threat didn’t exist. He named it, confronted it, and trusted God to judge it.
This teaches an important truth: discernment protects destiny. God never called us to suspicion, but He calls us to spiritual awareness. You can’t afford to travel through life blind to the intentions of those around you. Some friendships push you toward God; others drain your passion, clarity, or joy. Some relationships strengthen you; others weaken your commitment or confuse your direction.
Paul’s response is instructive. He didn’t fight Alexander physically. He didn’t seek revenge. Instead, he acknowledged the danger and placed the matter in God’s hands: “The Lord will repay him according to his works.” This is the posture of a mature believer—aware, prayerful, and trusting God’s justice.
There are people whose presence is a gift, but there are also people whose presence is a weight. Some are sent to support your journey; others are planted to sabotage it. And just like Paul, you may not always know their motives until God reveals them or events begin to unfold. This is why prayer is essential.
Today, ask God to guide your relationships. Ask Him to separate you from people who bring confusion, manipulation, hidden jealousy, or subtle sabotage. You’re not praying out of fear—you’re praying from a place of wisdom. God does not want destructive influences to travel with you.
When God separates you from certain relationships, it may feel uncomfortable at first. But separation is protection. Separation is mercy. Separation is wisdom. God sees what you don’t see and knows what you don’t know. Trust Him.
You’re not walking in this year alone. The Lord goes before you, and He surrounds you. Anyone the enemy has planted along your path to frustrate your assignment won’t succeed. As you walk with God, His light will reveal every hidden intention, and His hand will shield you from harm.
