AN ETERNAL PERSPECTIVE
My sister used to do something funny when she read mystery novels — she’d sometimes flip to the end first to see how it all turned out. For some people, that ruins the suspense; for others, it makes reading more relaxing. When you know the ending, you read the story differently. Every dark twist, every seemingly hopeless moment takes on a new meaning, because you know — it ends well.
That’s exactly how the Bible invites us to view our lives — from the end backward. Paul writes that we can be sure that the One who raised Jesus from the dead will also raise us. In other words: we know how the story ends. We know where we’re heading. Resurrection is coming for us too.
This perspective changes everything. When we know that the destination is secure, we don’t have to despair when the road gets rough. Paul calls our present troubles “light and momentary” — not because they feel light, but because he compares them to eternity. The scale shifts: what seems heavy and overwhelming here loses its weight in the light of what’s coming.
Those who live with eternity in view set their priorities differently. We no longer cling to what we can’t take with us, but set our hearts on what lasts. We give more generously, love more unconditionally, forgive more quickly — because we know that the true reward isn’t given out here. The prize awaits at the end of the race.
Jesus said that He is preparing a place for us in His Father’s house. That’s not just a comforting image — it’s a promise to hold on to. Our life here isn’t the finale; it’s the journey toward eternity.
So the next time you face a challenge or something you don’t understand, remember: you know the ending. It ends with resurrection. With joy. With glory. With Jesus.
Live today in a way that invests in what matters beyond the moment — in people, in grace, in love. Because everything you do in the light of eternity is never in vain.
