DAY 14 OF 17

READ Psalm 90:1-17.

How many homes have you lived in during your lifetime? Sometimes we move to a new city. Other times we simply move across town. Sometimes we move homes of our own volition, while other times we move because of the decision of others. In my life, I have lived in 13 different homes. How about you?

In Numbers 33, Moses details 42 “homes” that Israel had between Egypt and the promised land. That is a lot of moves! Despite their wanderings, Moses began Psalm 90 saying that Israel’s true home was in God. In this sense, Israel had a MOBILE HOME, in that God went with them wherever they went!

Has your life been on the move? Are you longing for some stability in this world? Moses reminds us that God can be our dwelling place and He is wherever we are. This point is made even more remarkable when we remember how frail we are, and how awesome God is (90:1-11).

The second half of this Psalm reminds God’s people that not only can we make Him our home, but He is an ever present help! How does He help us? Moses outlines 3 specific prayers we can pray to seek God’s help.

Prayer #1 asks God to teach us to number our days (90:12). Knowing life is short helps us to not waste our lives. We only get today once, so make the most of it by living in relationship with God.

Prayer #2 asks God to satisfy and make us glad all our days (90:13-15). Instead of always asking for more, may wealso ask God to satisfy our hearts in the midst of this short and difficult life. Like the Apostle Paul says in the New Testament, may we learn joy in both plenty and in want.

Prayer #3 asks God to allow us to see His works in our midst (90:16-17). God is always at work, but we so often miss it. It is a fantastic prayer to ask God to open our eyes to see what He is doing around us.

Let us listen to Moses and join his song, making our home in God as we seek His help to number our days, satisfy our souls, and see His mighty works.
