“Please, just try to be good.” How often did you hear that from a parent or guardian growing up? Or, if you’re a parent yourself now, how often do you catch yourself saying some variation of the same thing to your own children? Chances are, you’ve either heard it or said it (or both!) about a million times. That’s because we care about the way people see and perceive us. We care about raising or being well-behaved kids because we want people to think we, as parents or as people, are good, too. The problem? As humans, we can only be good for so long. Our children can’t hold in an outburst or tantrum forever. And we certainly can’t keep a check on our negative emotions or unhelpful instincts all the time. When we think of it that way, eternal goodness seems impossible. At least for us humans, it is! But as the Psalmist reminds us here, God is good, and that goodness has no limit and no end. There is a goodness that remains with us no matter what, and that goodness can only come from God. It’s one thing we can count on… always.

About this Plan

As humans, we all wonder what God is really like? Is God kind, loving, powerful, attentive, loyal? Is God distant, unfair, harsh, judgmental, or absent? In other words, we’re asking: what can we be sure is always true about who God is? In this devotional, we’ll look to Scripture to explore those questions and ground the answers in unshakeable, unchangeable truth, uncovering more about who God is and why we can trust Him not just now, but always.
