Vision

DAY 2 OF 7

LOOKING BACK GIVES YOU A THANKFUL HEART

Scripture — 1 Samuel 7:12 (NLT) “Samuel then took a large stone and placed it between Mizpah and Jeshanah. He named it Ebenezer, meaning ‘the stone of help,’ saying, ‘Up to this point the Lord has helped us!’”

Reflection:

Looking back is not dwelling on the past; it is recognizing God’s fingerprints in places we once misunderstood. When Samuel raised the Ebenezer stone, he wasn’t celebrating Israel’s perfection but God’s faithfulness. Vision strengthens when memory is redeemed. C. S. Lewis wrote, “We can only see forward clearly when we refuse to forget the mercies behind us.” Every scar tells a story, revealing the God who carried you. Israel often stumbled not because God was absent, but because they remembered giants and forgot His victories. Looking back clarifies how God shaped your character through seasons you prayed would end quickly, revealing that His timing protected you and prepared you for responsibilities you could not carry. Looking back trains your heart to see that God has been steady and present. It reminds you that what nearly broke you became a place God blessed. Remembered faithfulness reduces fear and renews perspective.

Application:

Today, identify three moments this year when God clearly helped you and thank Him for each. Share one testimony with someone who needs encouragement. Spend five minutes praying through your memories and noticing God’s presence. Replace complaints with gratitude statements throughout the day. Revisit journals or photos to remind yourself of God’s sustaining grace. Let gratitude shift your mindset and expectations. Speak about God’s goodness more than frustrations.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for every moment You carried and strengthened me. Help me remember Your faithfulness as new seasons unfold. Amen.
