LOOKING UP GIVES YOU A FAITH-FILLED HEART
Scripture — Matthew 14:29–30 (NIV)
“Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, ‘Lord, save me!’”
Reflection:
Looking up is the turning point between sinking in fear and rising in faith. Peter walked on the water because his eyes were on Jesus. The moment he focused on the wind, fear overtook what faith had begun. Vision is always shaped by where you look. A. W. Tozer said, “Faith is the gaze of a soul upon a saving God.” When your attention stays on the problem, anxiety grows; when it stays on Christ, courage strengthens. Looking up does not remove the storm, but it realigns your heart with the One who commands it. Jesus’ “Come” is greater than the waves under you or the pressure around you. Fear gains power when we look down; faith grows when we look up. As you consistently lift your eyes to Jesus, your imagination shifts from worst-case fears to God-given possibilities, and faith becomes your steady way of seeing.
Application:
Today, pause whenever worry rises and whisper, “Jesus, I look to You.” Identify the “wind” in your life—stress, fear, conflict, or uncertainty—and surrender it to Him. Reread this passage and picture Jesus inviting you to walk with Him above every distraction. Encourage someone facing a difficult season and point them back to Christ. Limit the voices that stir panic and strengthen the ones that build trust. Choose one small act of obedience that pulls your attention upward instead of inward.
Prayer:
Lord, lift my eyes from everything that pulls me down. Help me look to You first and walk with faith and confidence. Amen.
