Delight in the Word

We all know that we should value God’s Word. Most people who follow Him don’t argue about the importance of Scriptures. At the same time, knowing the truth and applying it to our lives are two different things. We say that we delight in God’s law, but do our lives reflect it?

We neglect God’s Word when we refuse to let it impact our lives. We miss its blessings if we view it as a list of rules we can’t follow or a standard of perfection we can’t meet. God’s Word is not meant to make us feel like failures, and it’s not meant to burden us. His Word is a delight and His yoke is easy. Each part of it has a unique purpose, and each promise tells us about God’s character. Each instruction is for our good, and each correction is made out of a love that is deeper than we can understand.

If you want to experience the blessing of the Word, you’re going to have to spend time reading it. You can’t delight in God’s instructions if you don’t know what they are. Spend time reading the Word and studying it. Let the truth of God’s story settle into your heart and mind. Let it wash over you and trust Him to highlight the right thing at the right time. You don’t have to take in everything at once. If you ask Him to, the Holy Spirit will guide you toward the truth. Soften your heart toward Him, and He will keep you on the right path.

Studying God’s Word will be a life-long journey. You are not expected to become an expert overnight. You aren’t even expected to walk away from each devotional time with a life-changing revelation. Instead, think about your knowledge of Scripture the same way you think about a friendship. Friendships are built through small moments as much as they are through excitement or adventures. As you read the Word, remember that you are steadily building a deeper understanding of its author. Today, read the Word and get to know God’s voice in a deeper way.
