Compelled by Love

DAY 5 OF 7

Day 5 – The Love That Drives Out Fear

What motivates your life: fear or God’s love?

As we walk through our PRAYER rhythm today, let each step be one that draws you closer toward God’s love.

P | Pause

As I begin, I pause to be still. I choose to breathe deeply. I turn my whole attention toward the love and presence of God, praying,

“God of love, thank You for finding me before I knew how to find You.
Quiet my fears and teach me to rest in the safety of Your love today.”

R | Reflect

We’ve discovered that following Jesus is an either/or way of life. We are either following Jesus or following something else. There’s no middle ground. And yet, giving ourselves fully to God’s love isn’t easy—because fear often gets in the way.

Centuries ago, the writer François Fénelon said, “What folly to fear to be too entirely God’s! It is to fear to love God’s will in all things.” He was right. Fear whispers that surrender will cost us too much, that trusting God too deeply might lead to disappointment. But love tells the truth: when we give ourselves completely to God, we find courage, not loss; freedom, not fear.

The Apostle John wrote, “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.” When we live from God’s love, fear begins to lose its grip. Fear says,“You’re not enough.”Love says,“You are Mine.”Fear says,“You’ll lose control.”Love says,“You can rest in Me.”

We are all devoted to something. The question isn’t whether we have a first love—it’s who or what that first love truly is. Jesus said, “No one can serve two masters. You cannot serve both God and mammon (money).” (Matthew 6:24) He wasn’t limiting us; He was inviting us to freedom. When we divide our devotion, we divide our hearts. But when love for God becomes our center, everything else finds its right place.

That’s what makes following Jesus different from following a “religion”. Religion says,“Prove yourself first, then God will accept you.” Jesus says,“You’re already loved by God—now follow Me from that love.”

Fear drives us to perform; love draws us to trust.

Jesus’ invitation is not about getting everything right. It’s about resting in the reality that He has already chosen you. His voice still whispers, “I’ve made My decision, and I choose you. You are My beloved.”

Perfect love doesn’t demand perfection. It drives out fear—and it sets you free to love in return.

A | Ask

· What is motivating me today: love that flows from being deeply loved by God, fear of falling short, or is it something else?

· Where does God want to free me to live more deeply in Christ’s love?

Y | Yield

I choose to yield and turn over my heart to God’s love by praying,

Lord Jesus, let Your perfect love cast out my fear.
Free me from striving to earn what You have already given.
Let my obedience be rooted in love,
and let that love overflow to everyone around me.
Amen.

E | Exercise

What kind of play stirs joy in your life? Now, imagine playing with God. What are you doing (with God)? What was the look on God’s face toward you? What would it look like for you to take this into your Sabbath practice?

Add it to your Sabbath guide as another way to say “yes” to the life Jesus offers.

R | Rest

Speak your name into this promise from Jeremiah 31:3: “I have loved you, ______, with an everlasting love.”Rest in the truth that you are already loved. Nothing you fear can change that.

“Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love. We love each other because he loved us first.” (1 John 4:18–19, NLT)

“No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money.” (Matthew 6:24, NLT)

Deeper Reflection

Questions for You or Your Group

  1. What part of 1 John 4:18–19 stood out most to you today?
  2. How is living from fear different from living from love?
  3. Where do you most need God’s love to replace fear in your life right now?
  4. Can you share a time when God’s love gave you courage to do something difficult?
  5. How can our group remind one another that love is stronger than fear?

Talk It Over

About this Plan

Compelled by Love

Performance exhausts, but presence restores. God created us to be human BE-ings before human DO-ings. Compelled by Love is a 7-day journey to rest in God’s love, feel the deep connection you were created for, and to live each day shaped by His love. Through the P.R.A.Y.E.R. rhythm (Pause, Reflect, Ask, Yield, Exercise, Rest), you’ll embrace a life-changing invitation: to live as one deeply loved by God.
