Righteousness in Progress

DAY 4 OF 7

RIGHTEOUS FEARLESSNESS

So far, we’ve discerned between right and wrong, we’ve repented and found peace in the Lord. What is our next step in this journey towards righteousness? It’s time to look at how we interact with the external forces in our lives.

Our true tests of righteous living happen when we’re confronted with people and circumstances that we cannot control. It’s easy to keep our hearts focused on the Lord when we’re alone with Him, basking in His love and mercy. But our sinful nature is easily triggered by the challenges of everyday life. The psalmist knew this all too well. “Those who are righteous will be long remembered. They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the Lord to care for them. They are confident and fearless and can face their foes triumphantly” (Psalms 112:6-8, NLT).

Again, can we conclude that the opposite is true? That we fall short of righteousness when we give in to fear? I think so. Throughout the Bible, The Lord invites us not to be afraid much more often than reminding us of His laws. (Isaiah 43, Matthew 10). It can only mean that fear is a significant player in the spiritual realm.

I have to agree with the psalmist. People who overcome fear in trying circumstances are indeed “long remembered” (Psalms 112:6, NLT). Many successful books and movies tell stories of courageous heroes who looked terror in the eye. And who can resist an underdog who wins against all odds? Imagine the impact on God’s kingdom when fearlessness points to Him!

What are you afraid of at the moment? Do you think that the fear may be hindering your mission to live righteously?

Let us repent when we allow fear to cloud the righteousness we’ve received through Christ. And let our fearlessness become a testimony to be long remembered for His glory. “The name of the Lord is a fortified tower: the righteous run to it and are safe” (Proverbs 18:10, NIV).

About this Plan

Righteousness in Progress

What is your understanding of righteousness? In the Bible, many of God’s promises to us are based on His and our righteousness. But what does it look like in practical terms? In this Plan, we will equip ourselves with knowledge and tools for righteous living. I hope that we will grow in holiness as we get to know our righteous God a little better.
