What Is Prayer?

DAY 2 OF 3

What is prayer?

Prayer is the breath of our souls. As Martin Luther said, "To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing."

The scripture says that after God formed the man, “He breathed into his nostrils the breath of life.” If I may ask, what does God want to say here?

Adam, in order to be truly alive, you have to keep on breathing. I am the one who gives and sustains your life and gives meaning to it. I created you to be in intimate fellowship with me, breathe me and live, breathe me so you grow and flourish, breathe me and live a rich and satisfying life. Without me, my beloved son, you are “living dead”!!

The word translated soul in the Hebrew language is nephesh, and it is derived from the root ( נָפַשׁ) nâphash Which literally means: To breathe.

What is truly amazing and humbling is the name of the God ”I AM” that was declared to Moses and seen and known in the person of Jesus Christ. In its Abstract Definition, from the Ancient Hebrew Lexicon, it means BREATH.

So prayer is not a burden, it is not heavy, it is not boring. Prayer is breathing the living true God each second and a fraction of a second of our life. Prayer is being truly alive. Prayer is living our life as God intended it.

My holy and beloved Creator, forgive me, I am your unworthy son, for I tried to live apart from you. I am suffocating my God, so please revive my soul again and help me breathe you unceasingly in the name of your Son Jesus, I pray.
