What Is Prayer?

DAY 3 OF 3

What is prayer?

Prayer is part of our being. Meeting the King, our Heavenly Father, in the private place, or as David used to describe it, the “secret place,” sacred and holy. In the secret place, you get to go into intimate personal fellowship with your Holy Father. You can love him and be loved by him as if you are the only one who exists in the world! There, you pour out your heart freely and unreservedly.ِ Our Perfect Model, Jesus Christ, taught us from his life on earth the pre-eminence of being alone with our Heavenly Father, and we are to follow his footsteps and example if we will.

Also, we know that he was a man of prayer, or let me rephrase this from what he fulfilled in Psalm 109:4, “I Am Prayer!” This is the literal translation from the Hebrew language. I am in a continuous state of prayer with God, I am communing with my heavenly father consistently, and my soul is in a deep, continuous, unceasing connection with him. It is indescribable but true. I adore him and miss him all the time, though I am always with him!

As Saint Augustine of Hippo said: “Yet there is another, interior kind of prayer without ceasing, namely, the desire of the heart.”

Abba, my father, how I long and desire to be in a constant, unceasing communion with you, to love and worship you with every atom of my being. Help me, Holy Spirit, because without you I can do nothing. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
