LEARN FROM HERSample

LEARN FROM HER

DAY 14 OF 30

LEARN FROM NAOMI

The Book of Ruth tells the story of Naomi, whose name means "pleasant," but whose life was anything but easy for a while.

After moving to Moab because of a famine, she tragically lost her husband and both her sons. When she headed back to Judah, she felt so heartbroken that she asked everyone to call her "Mara" (which means "bitter"), admitting, "the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me."

Here are some things we can learn from her

  1. It’s okay to be real: Naomi didn't try to hide her pain. She showed us what vulnerable faith looks like by being honest about her grief and feeling abandoned. The good news? God can absolutely handle our toughest feelings.
  2. Your Character Matters: Even though she was going through a bitter period, Naomi's integrity was so strong that her daughter-in-law, Ruth (a foreigner from Moab), decided to stay by her side completely: "Your people shall be my people, and your God my God." How you handle hard times is your most powerful witness.
  3. God always restores. Naomi came back home feeling empty, but she didn't stay that way. She wisely guided Ruth, which led to provision and security. In the end, she had her grandson, Obed (who became King David’s grandfather!), placing her right in the family line of Jesus. God truly turned her deep loss into a massive, eternal win.

If you're feeling like "Mara" right now—bitter or empty—remember that God is the ultimate Redeemer. You can trust Him to take your deepest disappointments and weave them into a story of incredible blessing, filling your emptiness with His goodness.
