LEARN FROM TAMAR
Tamar’s story is wild. Twice widowed and essentially abandoned by her father-in-law, Judah, Tamar took a shocking action: she disguised herself as a temple prostitute to ensure she received the heir promised to her. It sounds crazy, but the Bible actually stamps her actions as righteous.
Here’s the thing: Tamar wasn't after drama or a quick hookup; she was focused on keeping the Abrahamic lineage going. Judah kept messing up and wouldn't give his youngest son, Shelah, to her. So, Tamar took matters into her own hands to save the Messianic future. Judah knew he was busted when he saw his own personal items, and he confessed that she was morally in the right: "She is more righteous than I."
Do you feel ignored? Tamar totally gets what it's like to be passed over. When things aren't fair, it can force us to find creative (and sometimes risky) ways to fix the problem. So what is real righteousness? For Tamar, "righteousness" wasn't about following every cultural rule; it was about loyalty to her family's ultimate purpose. Sometimes, honouring God means having the guts to call out a messed-up situation.
Tamar is actually in the family tree of Jesus. It proves that God uses all the unexpected, complicated, and even scandalous parts of human history to piece together His perfect plan. Do not ignore your gut feeling.
