Entry (S5 - E1)

DAY 4 OF 4

Blessed to be a blessing

This scene from The Chosen captures something powerful. There is a celebration, an engagement, and Jesus is present. He doesn’t interrupt it or draw attention to Himself. He joins in. Scripture makes it clear that Jesus is not opposed to a good celebration.

Then a young boy recognizes Him and cries out, ‘Hosanna!’ In an ordinary moment, someone sees clearly. The Messiah is present. It is a reminder that recognizing Jesus does not only happen in dramatic settings. Sometimes it happens in the middle of everyday life.

As Jesus prepares to leave and let the celebration continue, the bride asks Him for a blessing–and Jesus gives it.

Do you ever speak blessing over others?

Blessing is more than kind words. It is intentional speech that strengthens, encourages, comforts, and points someone toward God. It can be spoken quietly or loudly, in big moments and small ones.

The Old Testament passages today show how central blessing can be to a person’s life. Jacob receives a blessing under broken circumstances. Later, at the end of his life, he blesses his children, even though their stories are marked by failure and conflict. Blessing does not deny brokenness. It chooses to speak life anyway.

Blessing is always a choice. We are blessed in order to be a blessing to others.

Scripture shows that God blesses His people so that blessing may flow through them. First Peter makes this clear: blessing is not only given, it is returned. Words shape lives. What you speak matters.

What would it look like for your words to carry blessing more intentionally?

Reflection Questions

  • Are you someone who blesses others? What does that look like?
  • What would intentional blessing look like in your daily relationships?
  • Who around you models a life where blessing flows freely? What can you learn from them?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, let my life be marked by blessing that flows from You. Thank You for blessing me first. Help me pass on what I have received through my words and actions. Teach me to speak in ways that build others up and point them toward You. Amen.
