Growing Into Maturity

DAY 1 OF 5

Day 1: The Work of Spiritual Growth

Reading: Ephesians 4:1–6

Devotional:
Spiritual maturity does not happen by accident, and it does not happen by observation alone. Just as you cannot become physically strong by watching someone else work out, you cannot become spiritually mature by only admiring other people’s faith. Growth requires participation. Paul urges believers to “walk worthy of the calling” they have received. That means living with humility, gentleness, patience, and love in a way that reflects the transforming work of Christ.

This does not mean we earn our salvation by effort. Salvation is a gift of grace through faith in Jesus. But once we have been saved, we are called to grow. That growth happens as we consistently position ourselves before God through prayer, Scripture, worship, obedience, and biblical community. Spiritual growth often looks ordinary before it looks powerful. It looks like showing up. It looks like opening your Bible when you do not feel like it. It looks like choosing forgiveness when your flesh wants bitterness. It looks like being faithful in small things.

God is not looking for perfection; He is looking for surrender. The Christian life is not meant to be lived from the sidelines. There is work to do in your heart, habits to form, truth to learn, and obedience to walk out. The question is not whether growth is available. The question is whether you are willing to engage in it.

Reflection Question:
What is one area where you’ve been spectating instead of participating in your spiritual growth?

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for calling me into a life of growth and transformation. Forgive me for the areas where I’ve been passive, distracted, or spiritually lazy. Help me to walk worthy of the calling You have placed on my life. Give me humility, patience, and consistency as I pursue You. Teach me to participate in what You are doing in me, and make me more like Jesus day by day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

About this Plan

Growing Into Maturity

Spiritual growth does not happen by accident. It takes intention, obedience, and a willingness to let God shape every part of your life. In this 5-day devotional, you’ll explore what it means to mature in Christ, walk in unity with other believers, discover your God-given gifts, move beyond spiritual immaturity, and live with the humility and heart of Jesus. Whether you feel stuck, stretched, or ready for more, this plan will encourage you to stop spectating and start growing.
