Growing Into MaturitySample

Day 4: Moving Beyond Spiritual Infancy
Reading: Ephesians 4:14–16
Devotional:
God never intended for His people to remain spiritually immature. Paul says that immaturity leaves us unstable—tossed around by every wind of doctrine, easily confused, easily offended, and easily swayed. Spiritual infancy may be understandable at the beginning of the faith journey, but staying there is not God’s desire. He calls us to grow up into Christ.
Spiritual maturity means becoming rooted in truth. It means learning to discern what is biblical from what is merely emotional, trendy, or appealing. It means we stop letting every inconvenience shake us and every offense derail us. Mature believers learn to speak the truth in love, handle conflict biblically, and stay anchored when feelings fluctuate.
Growth also requires responsibility. Paul says the whole body grows as each part does its work. That means maturity is not just about what we receive—it is also about how we contribute. Immature believers often consume constantly and serve rarely. Mature believers understand that they are called to strengthen others, not just be strengthened themselves.
There comes a point where excuses have to give way to discipline. If you want to grow, you have to make room for God. You have to feed on truth. You have to stay connected to the body. You have to stop settling for shallow faith. Growth is possible, but it requires intention.
Reflection Question:
In what area of your spiritual life have you been acting like an infant rather than maturing?
Prayer:
God, thank You for loving me enough not to leave me where I am. Help me to grow up in my faith and become rooted in Your truth. Expose areas of immaturity in my life and give me the courage to change. Teach me to handle challenges with wisdom, humility, and love. Strengthen me so I can not only receive from others, but also help build up Your people. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
