Titus: Belief + BehaviorSample

Sound Doctrine for Every Season of Life
Titus 2:1–8
After describing what the false teachers were doing wrong, Paul tells Titus what to do right: "teach what accords with sound doctrine." But Paul doesn't stay abstract. He immediately gets practical, describing how the Gospel should shape people at every stage of life.
Older men are called to be sober-minded, dignified, and steadfast in faith, love, and endurance. These aren't just personality traits. They are the fruit of a long walk with God. Older women are called to a kind of holy reverence and to teach younger women how to love their families and build stable homes. Young men are called to self-control, perhaps the hardest discipline of youth. And Titus himself is called to be an example "in everything."
What Paul is describing is a community where the Gospel is passed down through relationships, not just pulpits. The older invest in the younger. The mature model for those still learning. The whole church becomes a place where faith is caught and taught. This vision cuts against the cultural tendency to separate people by age and stage of life. The church is meant to be a multigenerational family where people are shaped by those who have walked longer with God. You may not feel qualified to mentor someone else, but if you are following Jesus faithfully, you have something worth passing on.
Reflection:
Who in your life is older in the faith and could invest in you? Who is someone younger you could intentionally encourage?
