Fresh Start Devotional

DAY 2 OF 31

GROWTH IS INTENTIONAL, NOT ACCIDENTAL

Anchor Scripture: 2 Peter 3:18
“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

Spiritual growth does not happen by chance; it happens by choice. Peter’s instruction to “grow” is deliberate, active, and ongoing. Growth is not automatic with time; it requires intentional engagement with truth, discipline, and obedience. Many people grow older in faith but not deeper because they confuse exposure with development.

Growth begins with grace, but it matures through knowledge. Grace gives access, but knowledge gives direction. Scripture reminds us that “my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6). Ignorance weakens faith, while understanding strengthens conviction. This is why Jesus consistently taught—because informed faith is resilient faith.

Paul echoes this when he prays that believers would “grow in the knowledge of God” (Colossians 1:10). Growth sharpens discernment, stabilizes emotions, and refines decision-making. Without growth, zeal becomes fragile. With growth, faith becomes steady.

Growth also demands patience. Just as physical growth takes time, spiritual maturity develops progressively. Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us that “there is a time for everything.” You are not behind; you are being formed.

Truths to Hold

  • Growth requires intention and consistency
  • Grace initiates growth; knowledge sustains it
  • Maturity develops progressively, not instantly

Faith Declaration

I commit to intentional growth. My understanding deepens, my faith matures, and my life reflects steady spiritual development.
