Day 7: God Moves Toward the Lonely
Scripture: Psalm 68:5–6 (NIV)
"A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families, he leads out the prisoners with singing."
God doesn't ignore lonely people. He moves toward them.
David describes God as a father to the fatherless. A defender of widows. Someone who specifically notices the people who have the least support, the least protection, the least belonging. And His response isn't sympathy from a distance. It's action. He sets the lonely in families. He leads prisoners out with singing.
That word "sets" is active. God doesn't just feel bad about your loneliness. He does something about it. He places people in your life. He creates community where there was isolation. He builds belonging where there was rejection.
That might not feel true right now. You might be in a season where the loneliness is loud and the community feels far away. And it's okay to say that. But it's also worth asking: is God already placing people around me that I haven't noticed yet? Are there people He's put in my path that I've been too guarded to let in?
Sometimes the community God is building for you is already there. It just requires you to take a risk and let people actually know you, not just the version of you that's safe to show.
Reflect: Is there someone in your life right now who might be part of the community God is building for you, but you haven't let them in yet? What's holding you back?
Today: Take one small step toward someone. A text. A real conversation. Showing up somewhere. Let someone in a little further than you normally would.
