Liberty Worship Collective: RunSample
When we run to something, we are desperate. We are devoted enough to put in extra effort in order to reach that certain thing. There is no time to waste—no walking or stopping—we are laser-focused on what lies ahead.
What do we run to when our world gives way?
One afternoon during my sophomore year of college, I was in over my head with terrorizing thoughts grabbing at me for my attention. My worries paralyzed me and quickly resulted in feelings of inadequacy, fear, insecurity, and anxiety. The evil one has a way of distracting us from running to the Lord in times of trouble. However, when we hide God’s word in our heart, we are able to fight those lies with the truth of scripture.
When I wanted to sit in my pity and dwell in my misfortune, I was reminded of what the Bible says in 1 Peter 5:7, “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” We are not promised the plan for tomorrow, but if we give all of our cares to Him, we don’t have to worry.
That day back in sophomore year, through the Word of God, I was able to leave all those thoughts and run to worship God for His faithfulness and comforting love. The faster we learn to run to God FIRST with our cares, the faster we will find relief in His presence and security in His promises.
Another one of those great verses to hide in your heart is Matthew 11:28, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
When we chose to run to God’s presence, the reward is so much more valuable than anything of this world. Without worries, we can dance. Without the chains of fear, we can lift our hands! Choose to run to Jesus today.
Lord, help me to always chose to run to You in every season. Help me to remember the freedom I have in your presence and the security I have in your promises. Amen.
