Liberty Worship Collective: RunSample
Allow me to share a personal story…
One night I had chosen to sin. It was very intentional and I immediately felt the Holy Spirit’s conviction. I knew I had broken God’s heart and my mind raced as I lay in bed, unable to fall asleep.
I saw my Bible across the room and immediately looked away in self-disgust. I even thought that covering up the Bible with something would ease my conscience, but I heard a still small voice whisper, “come.” I hesitated, trying to ignore the call and fall asleep. But I couldn’t.
I reluctantly picked up my journal and Bible and began to write:
“Every time I sin, I get into one of two dangerous places.
1. I’ve sinned, but it’s no big deal because God forgives me
or
2. I’ve sinned, I can’t approach God because I’m too far gone.
Both of these mindsets are dangerous because we are either taking lightly His amazing grace or forgetting how gracious our Father truly is.”
Sin is not something to take lightly. It is not to be pushed aside with excuses of “humanity” or “sinful nature”. At the same time, it should not cause us to run from God out of fear or shame. We can look back at all the times we’ve sinned in self-pity; or we can repent and move into the new grace that awaits us each morning.
If you are like me, finding yourself in need of grace every single day, don’t run away from God. Run to Him! When you sin, do not make light of it or wallow in shame.
If you feel ashamed—come.
If you feel apathetic—come.
If you feel dirty—come.
If you feel numb—come.
Run into the arms of your loving Father.
