The Psalms: The Ultimate Treasure from Ray Comfort

It was ironic, and probably a divine encounter. I was about to speak in a well-to-do church in Southern California on the epidemic of suicide in our nation, and I had noticed a young man sitting feet from the church doors. He was 19 years old, his name was Vince, an atheist, and he wasn’t going into the meeting because his parents had dragged him there.

I sat down and told him that an atheist is someone who believes the scientific impossibility that nothing created everything. Vince listened, and in time confided in me that he hated his stepfather, hated church, hated the music we could hear coming from inside, and he even hated his life. He had already attempted suicide and was considering it again. 

So I spoke to him about how God had formed him in his mother's womb, and that the instructions on how to make his eyes, his taste buds, his hearing, the shape of his ears, his skin, height, blood and bones, and a whole lot more, were in his DNA the moment he was conceived. 

It was because God created him that he had purpose in existence. He wasn’t a mere beast as evolution teaches, one small and meaningless result of nothing exploding into everything. 

I also took him through the Ten Commandments to show him that he was in big trouble with his Creator, which included the sin of ingratitude. It took time, but I could feel the hard soil of Vince’s heart soften as we spoke. 

He needed to understand the gospel—that is where unworthy sinners see their value to God. It is in the cross we see that He displayed His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. We are not worthy of salvation but we are of great value to God, so evidently demonstrated on that terrible day.

After producing a pro-life movie called "180," I asked my friend Ron DiCianni, if he could paint something that showed the preciousness of human life. He did, and of course he excelled. By showing the tender hand of Joseph as he touched the stomach that was holding the ultimate treasure in one human vessel—a foreshadow of the treasure we would possess in us—Ron demonstrates for us what Paul would call, “Christ in you. The hope of glory.”
