A Painted Old Testament | With Ray Comfort, Ron Dicianni & Dave YaukSample
In the Lion’s Den
In the process of executing this painting, Ron Dicianni actually photographed a 700 lb. male lion named Brutus. He was brought to the photographer’s studio by his owner and a professional trainer.
We have all seen lions on National Geographic, and gotten as close as bars will allow at the zoo, but never had Ron realized how incredible a lion is on the loose. He was the strongest living thing he’d ever seen. Although a chain to his master fastened the lion, there was only the faint impression that the master was actually leading him. It was a deceptive appearance. All Brutus had to do was move his head slightly in any direction, and his “master” followed!
Imagine Daniel’s situation. Hungry savage lions were his sleepover hosts. In a sense, I guess you can say he was invited for dinner. Was Daniel afraid? Did he wonder how far God was going to let this go, or did he know all along how the story would end? It’s safe to say that most of us would have been panicking in that den, looking for a way out. Daniel knew however, that God wants our trust.
The modern “Daniel” represented here has the look of concern on his face, and his body language demonstrates it. What Daniel did not see is that God had sent an angel to prevent any harm to him. The angel and the chains holding the lion’s are invisible, but effective. You might also detect a slight smile on the angel in the painting. That was intentional.
