Acel Van Ommen: You are a Child of the KingHalimbawa
ROYALTY
Who would not want to become a princess? With all the perks of being a royalty, I believe, maraming nangangarap maging prinsesa. There’s something about being “royal” that makes a girl feel beautiful and important. Today, the kings and queens, princes and princesses are considered one of the most powerful, influential, and wealthiest people in the world.
When an ordinary person says something like, “We were treated like royalty," it suggests that they were treated special and was served excellently. A royalty expects to be treated with utmost respect. If you’re a king, all the people in your kingdom are your subjects, and are expected to follow your rules. Kung ano ang sinabi ng hari, yun ang masusunod. Kung sino man ang sumuway sa kautusan ng hari ay kadalasan pinapatay o ikinukulong.
But looking at the life of Jesus, the King of Kings, we find a different kind of king. He is a king who came to serve and not to be served. He is a God who left the comfort of His throne to save the people He loves. Though almighty, He denied his rights and privileges, focused on saving His people, freeing us from slavery from sin so we can be a part of His kingdom and rule with Him. He did not only come to save and to serve us, but He also adopted us, and called us “Royal”. Hindi lang niya tayo inilagtas at pinagsilbihan, tayo'y tinanggap pa niya bilang isang pamilya at tinawag pa niyang maharlika. (John 1:12) Truly, there is no one like our God.
When Jesus was being persecuted by the Jewish leaders because He healed a man during the Sabbath, he answered them by saying, "The Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does, the Son also does." (John 5:19) Jesus put a premium in doing the work for the Kingdom just as His Father in Heaven did. He knew that the heart of the father is to free the people from bondage, to open the eyes of the blind, to speak the truth, and to give grace, mercy and compassion towards us.
As children of God—children of the King—may we focus on doing the work of our Father just as Jesus did.. Because He knew exactly what needed to be done according to the Father, Jesus was not afraid to get his hands dirty in serving the poor and the needy. He did not mind associating himself with people treated as inferior by the society. May we be like Jesus who thinks more about the kingdom than himself.
Being “royal” doesn’t mean we are better than anybody else. Being a royal child of the King of Heaven means we love God and we love others.
