Clothing Fit for a Queen
The book Esther is one of my favorite books in the bible and probably the story that most clearly proves the validity of the makeup and beauty industry in the 'Body of Christ'. Before Esther could come into the King’s presence, she had to go through a full 12 months of daily beauty treatments. Yes, you read right…TWELVE months and we’re not talking a simple face mask and pimple pop. Esther partook in ritual baths, was lathered in oils and received treatments that would cost thousands of dollars in today’s salons. And yes, this happened every day for 365 days.
Hegai was in charge of this full year of beauty and I imagine it being like the scene in ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ where Nigel takes Andy into the Runway sample closet and gives her the full glam treatment. Clothes, shoes and handbags flying everywhere in an attempt to find Hadassah (Esther) the perfect outfit to wear to go before the king. She then gets rushed to makeup and hair to finish off the look, emerging from the salon a golden goddess. Can’t you just see it!
Scripture says that when the king saw her, he was “pleased with her” and “held out the golden scepter that was in his hand”. Twelve months of beauty and skincare treatment, etiquette classes on how to dine at the King’s table, definitely a stylist in tow picking out pieces appropriate for the King’s stately court…all culminating in that first meeting. Oh, can’t you just imagine it?
