David, the Hunted Part 1

Multiple times King Saul tried to hurt or kill David; this was mostly out of jealousy and fear of being replaced. Yet David repeatedly chose not to return the favor when he had the opportunity to kill Saul. Surprisingly, Saul would realize that David had spared his life, but he was still driven by rage to get rid of David. Saul even tried to run him through with a spear while David was playing music to calm King Saul down. He hunted David and his men many times, seeking to murder them all.

I can only imagine how David felt, knowing that the Lord, through the prophet Samuel, had anointed him to be king someday. Yet, it took years of running from Saul, fearing for his life, until God’s timing came to fruition.

Even David had to encourage himself through God’s strength when he was depressed to remember that his hope was in God. He patiently waited and didn’t force his timing on God, even when his loyal army suggested he kill Saul. When it was time for David to assume the throne, he was ready.

What dreams from God are you disappointed haven’t come to fruition yet?

Seek him in patient prayer, realizing He knows the future better than we do.
