Help me understand time...
Would your life change if you understood time? The Bible says, “Show me, Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting my life is.” (Psalms 39:4, NIV)
The great King David had it all: wives, concubines, money, power, courage, talent, and the favor of God. He was a war hero who rose from obscurity to become king. Wow! But he was lacking one thing: he lacked the perspective of time. David wanted to see his life in perspective, so he asked God for help understanding:
- His mortality
- The brevity of his life
- How quickly his life would pass.
Would you like to pray the same prayer? I did, and it changed my life. I guess that’s what a near-death experience does to you. I know my life is now short. I’m trying to make the most of every opportunity. I don’t want to waste any more time. What about you?
Have you ever heard anyone say, “I’m killing time” or “I’m wasting time”? Have you ever watched someone die prematurely? Have you ever heard a dying patient ask for a little more time? I have. Someone once said time is the new currency. I believe this is true. We can never get back wasted time. The Bible says, “Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,” (Hebrews 9:27, NIV).
We only get one shot at this life. We are all given a limited amount of time. Would it be wise to see the days of our lives as a gift from God? Exercise, good nutrition, good genes, a healthy lifestyle, and God can lengthen our days. But ultimately, we will all die. COVID-19 has taken the lives of many people, especially the elderly. It’s sad, but it should remind us all to make the most of every day. I’m praying God helps you understand and steward your time wisely.
Because you are a miracle.
Your friend, Paul Marc Goulet
