GOD COMPARES HIS LOVE TO THAT OF A MOTHER

"As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you, you shall be comforted in Jerusalem." Isaiah 66:13

What a beautiful scripture of comfort, for we know from Scripture that God chose Israel as His nation, and Jerusalem as His Holy City. The Jewish nation would be His people. In this scripture, God promises His people that as a mother comforts so will He comfort Jerusalem!

Let us look at ways a mother shows comfort:

• She loves unconditionally.

• She is patient and kind.

• She prays for her children.

• She nurtures with food.

• She teaches the truth.

• She disciplines, correcting with love, not anger.

• She is consistent.

• She is forgiving.

• She leads by example.

• She is hard-working.

• She is available to her child.

• She is a woman of faith.

• She is understanding.

• She shows her affection to her child with embraces, actions, and words.

• She shows her husband love and respect.

• She nurses her child with great care when he or she is ill.

• She would lay her life down for her child.

These are just a few of many characteristics of mothers, but as we read through this list, we can understand why God honored the role of "motherhood" by comparing His love for His people to that of the comfort a mother gives her child.

A mother is truly a Proverbs 31 woman! Children who grow up under these comforts desire to honor their mother, for they have experienced firsthand her true love. Through a mother’s love, a child can experience the love of God! What a role to be respected.

PRAYER: Father, thank You for the role of motherhood! Not all mothers play out the role as You desire, and because of that, children have suffered and continue to suffer. If only the world could grasp the order of creation and understand Your great plan. Father, help each woman who has the title of mom to rise in that title and become the comforter that she was designed to be. In Jesus' name, amen.
